Open Letter from WPCC

The West Papuan Council of Churches call on President Joko Widodo of Indonesia to stop sending military troops to West Papua. They state that the massive increase in police and army troops over the last year is increasing violence, displacement and causing increased marginalisation and suffering for Indigenous Papuans.

They request that the President fulfils his promise to meet with pro-referendum groups for a dialogue on how to resolve the conflict and bring peace to Papua in the same way as the Indonesian Government held a dialogue with the people of Aceh in 2005.
